The shooping project.

In the last post I have talked about one little activity that we can make in the class, recreate that we are buying in a supermarket.

But, I think that this little activity could be bigger, in fact, I think that we can develop a special project to work with the measure through shoppings.

The project is to create the day of the shoppings or the week of the shoppings, in which each class of the cycle in which we are working (second cycle), is going to sell a different product, for example, food, clothes, toys, books…

Before doing the big project, I mean, the manipulative, the students will doing a previous research about the cost of products that they are going to sell, also, they have to work in different interdisciplinary subject, such as, plastics and visual arts, geography, collaborative work, understanding of real life…

- To research and information organization.
- To create of the necessary elements.
- Knowledge and management of the euro.
- To work with prices and real quantities.



So, the students will going between classes in order to buy and sell products. 

With the accomplishment of these activities they will work:

- The count.
- The operations with natural numbers.
- The relationship between spelling and quantity.
- The decimal numbers and the operations with them.
- The handling of the euro and prices.
- The use of the calculator.
- The resolution of problems.
- Introduction to the percentages and calculations with them.




This project is very helpful to work with different competencies, not only with mathematical competency, if not with science and ICT competency, linguistic competency, Sense of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit competency and finally, social and civic competency. 

On the other hand, they can work this project in the language class, because, they can learn how to sell and buy products in English and french.  And they can learn how to do this real communicative situation. 

Other important aspects to highlight is that they can work with recycling materials to do the project, they are learning something related to the real life and they are collaborate between them.


To conclude, I firmly believe that this is a very useful activity that we have to develop in the school, because, the students are learning very different learnings related with the real life, at the same time, we are working transversal areas and subjects, and they students are working together to achieve the project.
